Easy No-bake 2-Ingredients Energy Balls (aka Nakd Energy Bars for 28p)

Make your own energy balls for only 28p each!


Good Morning my dear friends! How was your weekend? I have been busy looking for plates, cups, bowls and anything kitchenware related, so that I can use it to take photos of my lovely recipes! πŸ™‚ I have never been a great photographer and never really enjoyed taking pictures, but for some reason I loooove styling food and take pictures of it. Maybe, I find it more simple to take picture of meals, as supposed to people that move all the time and have actual facial expressions! πŸ˜‰ Although I like to buy new kitchen equipment, I don’t really like the idea of having to spend money for a plate that I will only use a few times. So, I always look into charity shops or in pound shops to see what they have available. And they often have some really great stuff! I also asked on some Facebook groups I am part of and a few people kindly offered to give me a few items they didn’t need anymore! I love the fact that there are so many nice people out there, ready to help you out! πŸ™‚

But nowΒ let’s talk about today’s recipe, if I can call it that. I don’t know if you ever tried Nakd bars, but I am a great fan of them! I discovered them when I started cutting gluten off my diet, as they are gluten and dairy free. They have different flavours, but one of my favouriteΒ is the Cashew Cookie one. I looked at the list of ingredients and they only contain 2 ingredients: cashew nuts and dates. Well, that means I could easily make them myself, right? You see, they taste lovely but 75p a bar is a bit too much for me.

So, I had a look around in different supermarkets to see how much it would cost me to make my own. Apart from Aldi and Lidl, which are definitely my favourite places to shop for cheap groceries, I found Asda to have quite good prices too. In fact a 100g bag of cashews only costs Β£1 and 500g of dates only Β£1.88.

All you need, to make 5 balls (I turned the bars into balls, as It was easier to shape them) is 100g of dates and 100g of cashew nuts. That works out to about 28p each! Which is nearly a third of the price of the original Nakd bars. And you know what? It literally takes a minute to make them with a food processor. If you don’t have a food processor, a mini chopper will work too. You can pick them up at a good price and they are so useful! But if you have a busy lifestyle and you can invest in a food processor, please do. It makes life so much easier, especially if you have to cook meals from scratch on a regular basis.


Now, let me tell you a bit more about these amazing energy balls. Why do I love them so much? Well, apart from the fact that they taste amazing and they have such a chewy texture, they are such a great snack to always carry around with you. They are a great pre- and post-workout, as they provide a quick dose of energy to replenish your carbohydrate stores after an intense workout. Cashew nuts are also a great source of unsaturated fats (the good fats), as well as magnesium, iron and protein. I usually wrap mine individually in cling foil and store them in the fridge. Feel free to double the dose and make double the amount. They will last a good 7-10 days in the fridge. So there you are, a great snack to have and take with you wherever you go at a fraction of the price of the original one! πŸ™‚


Ingredients (makes 5 energy balls)

  • 100g cashew nuts
  • 100g dates


  1. Put all the ingredients in a food processor and blend for a few minutes.
  2. Using your hand, divide the mixture in 5 (approx. 40g each) and shape into balls.
  3. Store in the fridge for up to 10 days and take them with you wherever you like! πŸ™‚

  2. I love dates! I have a similar recipe where you make a type of rice krispy square but use dates – Heavenly. Great to see you can still eat well and be healthy!
